Bellowhead will be presented with their Songlines Music Award at WOMAD Charlton Park on July 28.

Life for the 11 members of our favourite folk big band has been hectic - to say the least - since we featured them in October last year (#72). “They're a constant rumbling juggernaut of activity,” says their PR person.

It's only just over a year ago that they recorded their award-winning album in the hallowed Abbey Road Studios, produced by John Leckie of Stone Roses and Radiohead fame.

BellowheadSince then, they've done innumerable live shows, including their second special New Year's Eve bash at London's South Bank Centre; they were the highlight of Jools Holland's annual Hootenanny show and in February they were crowned Best Group and picked up yet another Best Live Band award (their fifth!) at the Radio 2 Folk Awards.

What's equally impressive is that all 11 members have other solo careers besides being in this most energetic and dynamic group. Most recently they were chosen to record a special version of The Archers' signature theme tune ‘Barwick Green,’ for Radio 4 Extra's spin-off to the world's longest running and quintessentially English radio soap opera.

The band will be performing a special gig at Bournemouth's O2 Academy on May 2 which will be filmed for a live DVD to be released later this autumn.

Their ever-increasing fan base - which includes comedian Frank Skinner and actress Tamsin Greig - is set to swell as they're playing practically every festival in the country this summer, from Glastonbury, Latitude to V Festival, including an appearance at WOMAD in Charlton Park.
