“I shall always be grateful for my trip. It was probably the best experience of my life, and changed the way I view myself and the world. I relive parts of that trip every day and probably always will. It was a magical experience and I thank Songlines for making it possible.” Sherry Smith on the Songlines Music Travel trip to Mali in January 2010.
Songlines Music Travel
Tango in Buenos Aires. Flamenco in an Andalusian bar. Kora music in Mali. Ecstatic Rajasthani dancing at a local festival.
Nothing beats experiencing music in situ - with the food, the ambience and the local people. Yet finding the best music isn't always that simple.
That's why Songlines Music Travel is starting dedicated music trips for music lovers worldwide, bringing you the excitement of real music directly where it's made.
Imagine a visit to the Flamenco Biennale in Seville - the leading showcase for flamenco music. Or a visit to Bamako, capital of Mali - one of the most musical countries on the planet but for an outsider often a bewildering place. To find the music you need to know where to go and when.
Our trips are organised in partnership with the Tailor-Made Groups Company, one of the most experienced specialised operators in the business. Derek Moore of the Groups Company co-founded Explore in 1981 and has 35 years experience in the travel market. The formula is simple: we provide the musical knowledge and Derek provides the travel expertise.
We have the insight and unrivalled contacts to take you beneath the surface for some very special musical experiences. Each trip is led by a Songlines Travel Leader and will often involve private concerts, jam sessions and meetings with musicians and instrument-makers. Groups will be kept deliberately small - between 10 and 20 - to make the experience more intimate and memorable. Of course it's not exclusively about music and on your visit you will also see the historic and cultural highlights of wherever you may be visiting.
