Mr Bongo to release 50th-anniversary edition of Gal Costa’s Índia

By Benjamin Kilian

Gal Costa's classic album, Índia, has turned 50 this year, so Mr Bongo are reissuing a special 50th-anniversary edition

Gal Costa India 50Th Crop

Gal Costa, who passed away late last year at the age of 77, was one of the key figures in the tropicália movement of the 60s. Her 1973 album, Índia, hailed as a post-tropicália masterpiece, is now to be reissued on black vinyl, to celebrate its 50th anniversary, along with original artwork that was censored by Brazil’s military government upon release.

While originally released on Phillips Records, the reissue will be released on the Mr Bongo record label. Included in the 50th-anniversary edition will be a gatefold sleeve, an OBI strip, an exclusive A2 poster, and an insert featuring an interview with Gal. On top of that, help was enlisted from mastering and lacquer-cutting engineer Miles Showell from Abbey Road, to cut a half-speed master of the record for a beautiful spacious sound.

Índia will be reissued on July 7. You can pre-order the vinyl here
