Mauro Durante is the bandleader and violinist with Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino, the award-winning group who have toured the world showcasing their very contemporary take on pizzica, the traditional music and dance from southern Italy. Finding himself in lockdown in Puglia, Durante and his wife and dancer Silvia Perrone, came up with an idea of writing a new composition and creating a video. The result is a moving and life-affirming piece of work featuring roughly 150 dancers from around the world, produced by Gabriele Surdo.

Durante explains the origins of the video: 'Not so long ago, in southern Italy, music and dance were used to exorcise the poison of the Taranta spider demon. Today, in the midst of the coronavirus emergency, a music comes out the walls of a house in Puglia and crosses the world. The dance goes global: hymn to life, antidote to the privations of the lockdown.'
