WOMAD today announced the first wave of artists for this year's edition, which will be taking place in Charlton Park, Wiltshire from Thursday 25 until Sunday 28 July. The headline artists include Sampa The Great and Baaba Maal, who will both be playing what should be a scintillating Sunday, as well as Amadou & Mariam, Young Fathers, Gogol Bordello and Alison Goldfrapp.

As usual there are plenty of names familiar to our readers, including Soema Montenegro, Ndox Électrique, Islandman, Faiz Ali Faiz, Cerys Hafana, Yungchen Lhamo and Bala Desejo. It will also be very exciting to see the Zawose Queens, the daughter and granddaughter of Hukwe Zawose who have a debut album on the way, and the experimental collaboration "41323142", which will feature members of Tarta Relena, Cocanha and Los Sara Fontan. Palestine hip-hop crew DAM will be there, as will New Orleans' 79rs Gang and the stunning Manchester-based The Breath for what should be a heck of a weekend.
