WOMAD cancelled

The country's most important gathering of world music artists is the latest festival to cancel in the wake of the government's decision to extend COVID restrictions

In better days: the view from WOMAD's main stage

Songlines is very saddened to hear about the cancellation of WOMAD festival that was due to take place July 22-25 2021 at Charlton Park.

Regarding the decision, WOMAD founder Peter Gabriel commented: “It is with great regret that we are cancelling WOMAD ’21 today. Without the simple support of a government insurance scheme or the guarantee of Test Event status, we cannot continue and put WOMAD’s long term future at risk. We feel that our audience, artists, staff, and contractors, who have been amazingly supportive throughout all this, will understand the need for us to act to guarantee our survival.”

Read more about the circumstances and repercussions of the WOMAD cancellation in the next issue of Songlines, out July 23.
