The votes are in for the inaugural Songlines Music Awards in partnership with WOMAD
Posted on February 5th, 2009 in World Music.
The votes have been cast in the inaugural Songlines Music Awards, to recognise outstanding talent in world music. The awards are run in partnership with WOMAD festival and will culminate in a live event at WOMAD 2009 in Charlton Park in Wiltshire on July 24-26.
With the BBC Radio 3 Awards for World Music not longer taking place, Songlines felt it was important to continue the momentum the wards had built up and spread the word about the music of the world.
Voted for by you, the readers, and the WOMAD e-list, there is the chance to win tickets to the WOMAD festival 2009 at Charlton Park.
Voting is now closed and the four nominees from each of the four categories – Best Artist, Best Group, Cross-Cultural Collaboration and Newcomer – will be announced in Songlines #59 (April/May 2009). An awards jury will then select the winners, who will be announced in issue #60 (June 2009).
