Posted on September 27th, 2010 in World Music by Songlines.
OUTERINDIA is a new residency at Rich Mix arts and cultural centre in east London. It is the brainchild of Tamil Londoner Susheela Raman, whose southern Indian roots music formed part of the opening night of OUTERINDIA on September 28. On the last Tuesday of each month, the night will bring South Asian culture to a UK audience through musical, visual and written arts.
The launch night on September 28 features Bengal Baul legend Paban Das Baul, Mimlu Sen presenting her new book The Holy Gatherers – all about the Bauls of Bengal – and Susheela Raman herself with Aref Durvesh, Sam Mills, Vikaash Shankadecha, Johnny Turnbull and Kartik Raghunathan.
Also appearing are Dr Das with Bantu and Ramjac and there will be a screening of a Sufi film by Sadia Shepard. The audience gets to enjoy this musical feast alongside Goan-Keralan cuisine by Moolis.
