Summer Soundtracks

In an attempt to bring on summer through wishful thinking alone, some of the Songlines team have put together some of our favourite summertime albums.

Editor Jo Frost
Batida by Batida (on Soundway), the track ‘Alegria’ in particular – featured on the current Top of the World CD (#84, June 2012). Puts a spring in your step and a big smile on your face.

News Editor Nathaniel Handy
Dimanche a Bamako by Amadou & Mariam  – the entirety of the album is the soundtrack to a summer!

Subscription Manager Alexandra Petropoulos
It’s got to be Give by BBB (Balkan Beat Box) – Balkan flavoured club music that will get you grooving in the sun.

Assistant Editor Sophie Marie Atkinson
Look Around the Corner by Quantic and Alice Russell. I saw them perform together at KOKO on Wednesday, and even though the rain was heaving down outside it felt as though the sun was shining directly onto the stage. A beautiful, feel-good album that constantly has me grooving and craving some of that Cali heat!

What will you be listening to this month to coax the sun back out?

    1. Steve Webster Says:

Anything that reminds me of hot North African nights, rather than cold wet English ones, will do for now.Play a bit of Made in Medina by Rachid Taha spiced up with a bit of Beyond the Trance by Iness Mezel and the sun would have to come out…
