Gurrumul cancels European tour due to ill health

The Aboriginal singer-songwriter Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu has sadly been forced to cancel his tour in Europe this summer, including dates at BT River of Music in London next weekend and WOMAD Charlton Park.

This is the second time Gurrumul has had to cancel dates  –  his tour in the summer of 2010 was cancelled for similar health reasons. However, he returned to the UK in October 2011 where he played to a packed  hall at the Barbican. More recently Gurrumul performed with a star-studded line-up in front of Buckingham Palace in June for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee concert. He can also be seen (although sadly not heard terribly well, amid the voices of the Military Wives choir) on Gary Barlow’s super saccharine ‘Sing’ video. A behind-the-scenes book about Gurrumul’s incredible career to date is due to be published next spring.

We wish him well and hope he makes a quick recovery.
