We are very excited to announce that Fatoumata Diawara, winner of the Newcomer award in this year’s Songlines Music Awards 2012, has been added to the bill for our inaugural Songlines Awards Winners’ Concert at the Barbican next Friday, November 23.
Since her debut album on World Circuit in 2011, the Malian singer has supported top African artists, appeared at a whole host of international festivals and been an integral part of Damon Albarn’s Africa Express in September 2012. Her award was well deserved. She will join Indian sitar star Anoushka Shankar (Best Artist) and Touareg desert rock band Tinariwen (Best Group).
In the light of the continuing crisis in Mali, a Q&A session with Fatoumata and two members of Tinariwen will be chaired by Andy Morgan before the concert at 7pm to get their views on the situation in Mali. Songlines editor-in-chief Simon Broughton will also be talking to Anoushka Shankar at 6:30pm.
We have a limited number of tickets to give away for the two talks on a first come, first served basis. These are only available to those with valid tickets to the Songlines Music Awards Winners’ Concert.
To claim your ticket for the full hour Q&A session, please call the Barbican Centre at +44 (0)844 848 5218 and quote ‘Songlines Offer.’
Tickets for the concert itself are available through the Barbican website or by calling their ticket line.
