Words by Luke Shekerali
Introducing us to material from their latest LP 13 Degrees of Reality, The Heliocentric’s show at London’s XOYO (July 9) is set to be an exceptional performance.
With their unique blend of psychedelic instrumental hip-hop with a twist of funk, The Heliocentrics prove why they have toured and collaborated with some of the biggest names in instrumental music in their decade of existence. From DJ Shadow and Madlib to Ethiopian jazz maestro Mulatu Astatke, they continue to explore the possibilities that arise from their myriad of influences – African, Latin and more.
Support will come in the form of hip-hop experimentalist Paul White, featuring his band Mo Kolours. With his brand of new wave psychedelia, he has made a huge impact on the leftfield hip-hop scene, producing the bulk of rising US rap star Danny Brown’s forthcoming album.
The chance to hear the amalgamation of all that is experimental in contemporary music is one that should not be missed.
