Mais Um Discos bring three Brazilian artists to the UK
Mais Um Discos, the label well-known for promoting Brazilian music from the new and alternative generation, presents three contemporary artists from three very different states who represent the incredible diversity of 21st century Brazilian contemporary music to audiences in Bristol’s Colston Halland London’s Village Underground this July.
Supported by the London Brazilian Embassy and produced by the Barbican, the two shows will feature performances from Gaby Amarantos, Lucas Santtana (pictured above) and Graveola.
Gaby Amarantos – Turbo-charged tropical tecnobrega dance music from the queen of the Amazonian dancehall who comes from the jungle-city of Belém in the state of Pará. Expect tropical bass, lasers, equatorial heat and diva antics from the ‘Amazonian Beyonce.’
Lucas Santtana – Adventurous, modernist singer-songwriter from Bahia who mixes Brazilian rhythms with dub, Afro-beat, hip-hop and beyond. Featured on the Songlines #88 (Nov/Dec 2013) covermount CD, Santtana’s latest release The God Who Devastates Also Cures was described as a ‘cosmopolitan pop album that is as ambitious as it is infectious.’
Graveola – Reviewed in Songlines #91 (April/May 2013), Graveola bring quirky nova-tropicalia from Belo Horizonte in Minas Gerais. ‘I can’t get enough of this…. the whole album is just luscious’ – Cerys Matthews (Songlines columnist and BBC 6Music presenter)
