With the new issue (July 2013, #93) now off to press, we thought we’d take a moment to find out what is currently plaguing our headphones.

Matt Milton (Editor)

Dengue Dengue DengueLa Alianza Profana
Peruvian electro cumbia, with mule-whipping basslines and Kraftwerk-style melodies.

Alex Petropoulos (Assistant Editor)

Jupiter & Okwess International – Hotel Univers
This is the international debut for the Congolese band that rocked last year’s WOMAD and is due to blow the Glastonbury crowds away later this month. ‘Bapasi’ and ‘Margarite’ are particularly funky tunes.

Edward Craggs (Online Media & Subscriptions Manager)

Wally Badarou Echoes
Still not quite sure how I went so long without hearing this album (Island Records, 1984) by the Beninese musician. Here is ‘Hi Life’. I dare you not to break out a smile.
