Vieux Farka Touré will showcase his new album at London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall next week, with support from Diabel Cissokho
The ‘Hendrix of the Sahara’ will perform his new album alongside Valery Assouan on bass guitar and Jean-Baptiste Gbadoe on drums. His excellent fourth release, Mon Pays (a four star review in issue #95), confronts the conflict in his homeland and pays homage to the music of Mali and its illustrious heritage, for which he is fast becoming an important figurehead.
Diabel Cissokho, the Senegalese kora player who has performed alongside artists including Baaba Maal, Kandia Kouyate, Femi Kuti and Manu Dibango, now fronts his own ensemble, and will open with his new band.
‘Peace’, recorded by Vieux and Sidiki Diabate, is an instrumental masterpiece, and the video for this can be viewed below:
Having sold out the Queen Elizabeth Hall last year with a spellbinding performance, the opportunity to see the fantastic Mon Pays live in concert is not to be missed. You can purchase tickets here.
