Ontario-bred fiddler April Verch will bring old-time classic country to East London
Canada Water Culture Space will host the April Verch Band on October 16. The band is best described as bluegrass meets old-time Appalachian folk. Alongside clawhammer banjoist Cody Walters and guitarist Hayes Griffin, Verch’s latest release Bright Like Gold (Slab Town Records) has been met with critical acclaim, including a four-star review in the August/September 2013 (#94) issue of Songlines:
‘This is the right kind of happy hour: spending 60 minutes sampling delicious old-time classic country, and traditionally prepared original material, prettily presented with skill and good taste.’
A multi-awarded winning instrumentalist in her native Canada, April says of her wide success and work: ‘The accolades are special to me but what I think is most impressive is that I’ve been doing this full time since 2000. We make a living playing music that we love and it touches other people. I feel like we’re extremely lucky to do that, but also I work really hard, not just at the music, but at every aspect of our career, to make that happen.’
