On Saturday October 26 a group of 420, including many boys and girls from Plan Paraguay’s project, Beyond the Classroom, broke the world record for the largest harp ensemble

PLAN International, one of the oldest and largest children’s development organisations in the world, joined forces with organisations Sounds of the Earth and Our Earth foundation to break the record. Smashing the previous record of 201 harpists set at the 25th Edinburgh International Harp Festival, the ensemble performed the traditional local song ‘Bell Bird’, directed by Luis Szarán, an internationally recognised musician.

On this tremendous achievement, Country Director of Plan Paraguay, Belinda Portillo expressed her thoughts:

“Girls and boys from vulnerable communities showed to the world that achieving a dream is possible… if they have opportunities”

There was also involvement from the Because I Am a Girl Youth Orchestra; part of Plan’s campaign to improve the lives and education of millions of young girls around the world.
