Playlist: Asian Underground

The term Asian Underground has its roots in Talvin Singh’s Anokha nights in Shoreditch, where some of the most popular names in British Asian music got their first big break. The 90s saw a huge surge in experimental British Asian sounds, and alongside a collective of North American artists who referred to the emerging scene as Asian Massive, these iconic fusion artists expressed diverse diaspora identities through dub, drum’n’bass, bhangra, hip-hop and everything in between.
