Posted on August 8th, 2012 in News, Recent posts by .

If you haven’t already heard, we’ve recently released a Songlines Reader Survey and would like to ask you to take a moment to help us get to know you a little better and make Songlines more of the magazine you’d like it to be. By answering our reader survey you can help us to ensure that we give you more of what you want, and less of what you don’t.

As a thank you, we will enter you into a draw for the chance to win one of three pairs of tickets to WOMAD Charlton Park 2013 and one of ten runners-up prizes of a one-year subscription or renewal to Songlines Digital.

Win tickets to see the Sambasunda Quintet in London

Posted on January 19th, 2012 in Recent posts by .

The Sambasunda Quintet from Indonesia are releasing their latest album Java this month and will be celebrating with a UK tour in February.

We are giving away five pairs of tickets to see them perform at London’s Union Chapel on February 12. For more details and to enter, please visit our Facebook page.

While their latest venture sees the ensemble slim down to a quintet, the original 18 member group made their way into our top 75 albums in our 75th issue. Java – which was a commissioned project for a chamber ensemble of founding members Ismet Ruchimat, Yadi Cahyadi, Asep Yana, Budi Sofyan and new singer Neng Dini Andriati is a fresh and original take on the classical Sundanese tradition.

Download a free track ’Bulan Sapasi’ from the forthcoming album here.

ARC offers free downloads to celebrate anniversary

Posted on January 13th, 2012 in Recent posts by .

The world music record label, ARC are celebrating their 35th anniversary by offering a competition and sampler album for free download, which features some of their most exciting releases over the years.

Established in 1976, ARC music started out as a one-man operation by Horst Tubbesing, selling Bolivian music out of the back of his car, a Citroen 2CV. It was the first record label exclusively dedicated to the music of different world cultures.

They have come a long way since then and to celebrate this achievement, they are offering the chance to win 35 CDs of your choice from the ARC Music catalogue. With over 700 titles from over 120 countries, there is a lot to choose from! Recent releases include 20 Best of Ireland by Noel McLoughlin and The Very Best of Japanese Music – Shakuhachi, Koto and Taiko Drums – a beautiful collection of classical and modern Japanese music.

You can find the 19-track album available for free on Amazon here and the competition details here.
