The October 2010 Songlines podcast is now available through iTunes

This podcast includes highlights from the October 2010 issue of Songlines (#71) opening with ‘Jai Ho’ by A.R. Rahman, who’s playlist we have this issue. Editor in chief, Simon Broughton, plays an excerpt from the new album by Aynur Rewend on Sony.
Features include: Nigel Williamson on AfroCubism, Simon Broughton on music from Carriacou, Grenada and John Baily on the Afghan rubab. Nathaniel Handy brings you the latest news with the Official UK World Music Album Chart as well as music from Le Trio Joubran and K’Naan. The podcast ends with artists from A.R. Rahman’s playlist, Nagore Sufis and Zap Mama.
The next Songlines podcast, featuring highlights from the November/December issue (#72), will be available from October 15 2010.
Modern African music guide hits BBC Radio 1 in time for World Cup

In the latest tie-in to the South Africa World Cup, the weekly BBC Radio 1 Stories documentary on June 7 at 9pm will be a guide to modern African music.
Presented by DJ Edu from sister station Radio 1Xtra, it will explore the African rock, hip-hop, Afro-beat and various other sounds that are reverberating across the continent and further afield across the globe.
Contributiors include Mos Def, Tony Allen, K’naan, Nigerian popstar D’banj and Sudanese Rapper Emmanuel Jal.
