Seun Kuti & Egypt 80 back in the UK
Posted on October 25th, 2011 in Recent Posts by Songlines Intern.
Seun Kuti and his band Egypt 80 will be back in the UK for two gigs this November. Following the release in April of his hugely celebrated album From Africa With Fury, Seun will be performing in Liverpool at The Kazimier on November 3 and in London on the 4th at 229 The Venue on Great Portland Street.
Youngest son of Afro-beat legend, Fela, Seun’s music is highly politicised like his father’s, but with a contemporary twist. He said “I want to make Afro-beat for my generation. Instead of ‘get up and fight,’ it’s going to be get up and think.’” Seun’s power and spark when backed by Fela’s former band, Egypt 80, leaves the listener in little doubt of the force of his messages. Giles Peterson of BBC Radio1 summed it up perfectly: “If Seun and Egtypt 80 are performing near you, just get yourself in there!”
