Calypso Rose and Mayra Andrade step in as Gurrumul cancels tour

Posted on July 7th, 2010 in World Music by .

Australian Aboriginal sensation Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu has been forced to cancel his upcoming European tour due to illness. The tour included a date at London’s Barbican on July 24, the final concert in a run of seven that included WOMAD Festival, and dates in Germany, Switzerland and France.

Stepping in on the Barbican date is a double bill bringing together the rising Cape Verdean star Mayra Andrade and the Tobagonian calypso legend Calypso Rose.

We wish Gurrumul a speedy recovery.
