On November 12 the Roundhouse, Camden will host an evening of spectacular music making and collaboration, this year led by global star Angélique Kidjo

Following a hugely successful 2015 edition with Jamie Cullum, the Roundhouse will once again be taken over this autumn by a range of talented, emerging artists from across the globe. Part of the EFG London Jazz Festival, a variety of musical genres and styles will be fused with circus dramatics, with performers from as far afield as the Faroe Islands, Palestine, India and Brazil joining this hugely popular London event.

At the heart of this year’s project and joining the artists on stage will be three-time Grammy Award-winning, politically engaged, Beninese singer and global star Angélique Kidjo (pictured). She has produced an exclusive track for the project, which each participating group will be given to redefine in their own interpretation, culminating in a live collaborative performance at the Roundhouse in November.

Other artists set to perform include: Kinetika Bloco, Roundhouse Choir, Roundhouse Music Collective and Roundhouse Audio Collectives, Breakin’ Convention (Sadler’s Wells), Battersea Art Centres Beat Box Academy and Roundhouse Street Circus Collective.

Here is the 2017 On Mass trailer, in a Songlines exclusive.

Win one of five pairs of tickets to Songhoy Blues at the Roundhouse

Songhoy Blues

Join us for a celebration of Malian music and beyond on May 21, when Songhoy Blues and special guest Fatoumata Diawara will take to the stage at London’s iconic Roundhouse.

It has been a monumental rise for Malian quartet Songhoy Blues – from the raucous, defiant atmosphere of Bamako’s club circuit, to this, their biggest ever UK headline show.

Their appearance on 2013’s Maison des Jeunes album as part of the Africa Express collective was where the group’s ‘beefed-up’ Ali Farka Touré-esque riffs and an anthemic chunky desert-blues groove first caught the Western ear. Yet their documented ascent in Johanna Schwartz’s They Will Have to Kill Us First film and 2015 debut album Mali in Exile also highlighted the band’s intelligent, non-partisan view of Mali’s ongoing problems and the mission they were on – a desire for reconciliation.

We have five pairs of tickets to give away to the concert. Simply fill in the form below, or click here to enter.

Tinariwen announce special Roundhouse show

Posted on March 21st, 2014 in Live, News, Recent posts by .

Following two recent sold-out shows at London’s Village Underground, desert rockers Tinariwen will return to the capital later this year to perform at the Roundhouse alongside unconfirmed special guests.

Recorded in the Californian desert, the Songlines Music Awards 2012 winners’ new release Emmaar, was one of Tinariwen’s darkest, densest and most difficult albums to date – echoing northern Mali’s ongoing turmoil.

Presented by Soundcrash, tickets to their special Roundhouse performance can be purchased here.
