The June 2011 Songlines podcast is now available through iTunes

This podcast includes highlights from the June 2011 issue of Songlines (#76) opening with a preview from the upcoming ‘Balkan Brass Battle’ album (Asphalt Tango), our cover feature this issue.

Songlines editor in chief, Simon Broughton, plays an excerpt by Shakti, a bonus track chosen by Nitin Sawhney as part of his playlist this issue. There is also music from the new album by the Stelios Petrakis Trio who will be performing at the Songlines Encounters Festival in June.

Features include: Nasim Masoud with the winners of the Songlines Music Awards 2011, Simon Broughton with a report on the Balkan Brass Battle and Philip Sweeney on Les Guinguettes scene in France. Nathaniel Handy brings you the latest news with the Official UK World Music Album Chart and more. The podcast ends with music by Muntu Valdo (Warner Jazz).

This podcast includes highlights from the 75th issue of Songlines (April/May 2011) opening with music from Ojos de Brujo’s album Bari, selected as part of our 75 best albums cover feature. Songlines editor in chief, Simon Broughton, plays an excerpt from the bonus 2nd CD with this issue of music produced in France as well as a bonus track from Cerys Matthews‘ playlist – a track from the Princes Amongst Men soundtrack (Asphalt Tango).
