The Korean quartet take their name from the geomungo, a six-stringed zither whose name translates as, well, ‘Black String.’ Yoon Jeong, the group’s leader, is a geomungo virtuoso and is joined by daegeum (flute) and janggu (drum). An electric guitar adds an accessible Western flavour, although the spirit of the music remains distinctively Korean on a dynamic set of rhythmic soundscapes. A Top of the World in #125.
