The London Remixed Festival returns for two days in London at Rich Mix, in the heart of Shoreditch

Following last year’s success, which saw the likes of Auntie Flo, Nubiyan Twist, and Dub Colossus take to the stage, the London Remixed Festival returns with an equally diverse programme.

Friday’s proceedings are headed up by John Fairhust, electro-swing/bass maestro Odjbox and Dj Chris Tofu.  There are also panels and discussions going on throughout the day.

The Saturday sees three stages specially curated to satisfy the most adventurous of musical palates. The Tropicarnival – hosted by Movimentos and Wormfood – are bringing the beats with the ten-strong London Afrobeat Collective heading up the bill, with support from fusion specialists Nomad Collective and the Cuban rhythm crew Orchestra Bombo. Sam and the Womp (pictured) headline the riotous Polka Club, backed up by the New York Brass Band, with the Folk Ghetto headed up by Stompin’ Dave Allen and the exquisite klezmer group Don Kipper, who were recently awarded Best European Newcomers Valley Klezmer Festival.

Early bird tickets have all sold-out, but you can still get single day tickets and two-day passes through Skiddle.

Global Local are celebrating their tenth anniversary this year, so to give you a taster of what to expect, here’s their newest compilation:

AFRIGANZA!

AFRIGANZA! hits Brighton’s shores

Playgroup, Brighton’s pioneers of the indoor festival, have added a new event to their repertoire. AFRIGANZA! – a four-day celebration of African music – will not only revel in the continent’s musical offerings but also showcase some of the many British acts Africa has inspired. Held over the weekend of March 14-17, this mini festival will include art, workshops, film and live performances.

Headlining is Dele Sosimi and his full Afro-beat orchestra. In a career spanning over 30 years, he was the original keyboardist for close friend Fela Kuti, as well as acting as consultant on the National Theatre’s production of FELA! the musical.

Since its germination in 2008, the London Afrobeat Collective has gone from being a loose collection of over 30 international musicians to a streamlined, tight 12-piece band. Gathering increasing recognition, they have been championed by the likes of Glastonbury’s Michael Eavis and 6Music’s king of funk Craig Charles.

Joe Driscoll & Sekou Kouyaté may hail from different cultures – unable even to speak the same language – yet they transcend these obstacles in their music, creating an indefinable fusion of Afro-beat, hip-hop, folk and reggae.

A four-day pass costs £20, and comes with a free music sampler with tracks from all of the key acts playing this year. A percentage of the proceeds will go towards Music As Therapy, a Sussex based charity working closely with Rwanda Aid to help children with disabilities to use music as a creative communication tool.
