Furrow Collective On Moon Safari

Critically-acclaimed UK folk quartet take new lunar-loving album out on tour this winter

Furrow

Lucy Farrell, Alasdair Roberts, Rachel Newton and Emily Portman, aka The Furrow Collective

Luminous with night-shining serenades, celestial close-harmonies, We Know by the Moon, the latest full-length from stellar folk ensemble The Furrow Collective, is released via Hudson Records on November 27 (watch out for the forthcoming review in Songlines).

Marking ten years of the band’s existence, the album finds the fabulous foursome of Lucy Farrell, Rachel Newton, Emily Portman and Alasdair Roberts teaming up with producer Andy Bell on 11 starlit tracks, with originals such as ‘The Moon Shined on My Bed Last Night’ sitting alongside interpretations of songs from England, Scotland and beyond, including ‘’S fhada Leam an Oidhche Gheamhraidh’, the old Gaelic lament about a homesick Isle of Lewis emigrant, Robert Burns’ ‘O, Wert Thou in the Cauld Blast’, Schubert’s ‘Der Leiermann (The Hurdy-Gurdy Man)’ and an a cappella take on ‘Oh Watch the Stars’, learnt from a Seeger Sisters’ record.

About the album’s astral theme, the group comments: “The moon, the stars, darkness and night are threads woven through these songs. Songs to be listened to after dark, by candlelight, firelight, or under the cold, steady light of our constant lunar companion.”

The Furrow Collective will provide an opportunity to do just that, when they take We Know by the Moon out on the road with a series of live performances between December 1-10. For full concert details and ticket information visit: www.thefurrowcollective.co.uk
