Mujeres weaves together classical and Latin styles in a breathtaking tribute to the women of the New World. The album pays homage to poets, composers, dreamers and mothers who have expressed their femininity, sensuality and strength through art. Diana Baroni (voice, traverso, quijada) describes the project as an offering to the women who fought and still fight to preserve their ideals and make new thoughts blossom, to those who have lost their children, and to those who without children become mothers through their actions and their love.

Joined by Ronald Martin Alonso (viola da gamba) and Rafael Guel Frias (baroque guitar, flutes, percussion, voice), the trio has created 14 spellbinding arrangements of traditional and popular songs. Highlights include ‘La Petenera’, an uplifting song in the Mexican son huasteco style that's dedicated to opera singer La Petenera. Conversely, the bewitching slow zamba rhythm of ‘Alfonsina y el Mar’ recounts the tragic story of Alfonsina Storni, a post-modern Argentinian poetess who committed suicide in 1938 in Mar del Plata. The poignant ‘La Martiniana’ is a wonderfully brooding lament over music typical of the Isthmus of the Tehuantepec region of Mexico. With first-class performances and captivating themes, listeners experience a sublime spiritual journey on Mujeres.
