Rightly famed for her beguiling fusions of Turkish folk, psychedelia and surf rock – as well as her political bravery – Akyol is continuing to explore new territory. There’s a dash of disco on her fourth album, along with an augmented use of Turkish instruments, but Anadolu Ejderi is also a reminder of her powerful, soulful voice as she laments all that has been lost in Istanbul, the city she so loves.
