Dos Santos: Mirror Ballers

Chicagoan alt-Latinx quintet Dos Santos drop an animated collage fantasia for 'A Tu Lado', a track from their forthcoming long-player, City of Mirrors

Dos Santos A Tu Lado Still 4

Dos Santos's sultry salsa-infused cut, 'A Tu Lado' (which translates to 'by your side'), is a vivacious rumination on ideas tied to Mark Fisher’s cultural theory of the loss of potential futures. Bandleader Alex Chavez elaborates on the song’s sentiment: “We walk, march, and travel across these thresholds so that we may come to know the truth about our pasts – in the hopes of inching closer to futures that are not quite in view, of inching closer to a place being dreamed within the dream, that nonetheless exists outside the dream… And in that unbridled desire we discover the promise of these unknown paths only by walking along them at each other’s side.

The accompanying video, starring Adia Sykes and directed by Osvaldo Cuevas, is a Stan Brakhage-influenced quasi-psychedelic strafe which Charez describes as, “an upbeat, experimental visual illustration of the world as we see it and the projections we hope may colour and light our collective struggles."

City of Mirrors will be released via International Anthem on October 15
