Haitian-Canadian polyglot Jowee BasH! Omicil plays a rare headline date at London’s Ronnie Scott’s on Thursday, May 30, in support of his sublime latest full-length, Spiritual Healing: Bwa Kayiman Freedom Suite.

The album draws inspiration from the momentous Bwa Kayiman vodou ceremony, which became the pivotal catalyst for the major slave insurrection of the Haitian Revolution in 1791. Blending vibrant free-jazz improv and ritualistic polyrhythms with the rich musical traditions of Haiti, Spiritual Healing recalls the ground-breaking, genre-smashing innovations of the AACM, while issuing a timely, contemporary clarion for peace and liberty in heady swirls of brass, woodwind, percussion, keys and impassioned vocal invocations.

Joining Omicil for this sacred spectacle at the home of British jazz will be his specially-convened Elements ensemble, featuring bassist Jendha Manga, alongside drummers Franck Mategari and Dylan Chosi, simpatico shaman animating the album’s contrasting passages of serenity and melodrama, tension-build and flare-up.
