There is one piece of advice that everyone should follow: never meet your heroes. Fortunately, António Zambujo ignored that and Até Pensei que Fosse Minha is proof he never paid any attention to the scary thought of witnessing a personal god crumble into an ordinary human being. For here, Zambujo meets his hero, Chico Buarque, for a duet on ‘Joana Francesa’. Having received Buarque's blessing, Zambujo has gone through his repertoire, lending a new flavour to classics like ‘Geni e o Zepelim’ or ‘O Meu Amor’.

Zambujo has made quite a name for himself across the Atlantic, charming Brazilian crowds with his unique version of fado, one that echoes loosely the voices and songbooks of bossa nova creator João Gilberto and essential MPB stars Caetano Veloso and, of course, Chico Buarque. Here, Zambujo has spread his very own treatment – somewhere in between fado, bossa nova, samba, jazz and torch song – all over. He takes risks on the experimental ‘Cálice’, going from almost silence to a thundering chaos, and dives into a couple of gorgeous duets with Roberta Sá and Carminho. Zambujo has pulled off a stunning record.
