July/2017

This remarkable album from the Breton duo of saxophonist Timothée Le Bour and accordion player Youen Bodros – with guest players Gaëtan Sansom on percussion, and singer Rozenn Talec – draws at least some of its inspiration from Romania, where Le Bour spent time, in order to study with Costica Olan and Dany Lova, two great masters of saxophone and the Hungarian-Romanian tárogató, respectively.

Le Bour and Bodros are superstars of the rich Breton traditional music scene, and while firmly rooted there, they are adventurous fellow travellers into musical vistas strange and wild. On a 2016 visit to Edinburgh for a fest noz (a Breton ceilidh) they wowed audiences and fellow musicians with the potent mix of their two instruments. That potency continues here. This set of dances and tunes of high energy and higher beauty and impact is augmented by two songs for singer and writer Rozenn Talec, who, like LeBour and Bodros, likes to travel further than most beyond her own traditions, having lived and performed in India, Greece, Turkey and Hungary. It's jazz, it's folk, it's world music – it's singular and extraordinary and worth playing at volume. Clear the room and dance.
