While You Wait is Little North’s sixth album and the trio seem unstoppable as they continue to cement their place as Scandinavian jazz stalwarts. Pianist Benjamin Nørholm Jacobsen, bassist Martin Brunbjerg Rasmussen and drummer Lasse Jacobsen this time invite Norwegian trumpeter Oscar Andreas Haug to join them on their journey of presenting cinematic, enchanting and wistful narratives of sound.

‘Le Guin’ introduces speculative realms, resonating with the novelist’s spirit. ‘Third Eye’ showcases the band’s versatile musicianship, while ‘Colors’ soothes the meditative soul with a cloud and sky-inspired essence. The title-track unfolds like a relaxed yet apprehensive railway platform conversation between strangers (trumpet and bass) with familiar friends joining (drum and piano). ‘Little One’ exudes a Sunday ambiance, while ‘Steinar’ is more like gentle waves washing pebbles on a shoreline. ‘Terrible Seeds’ is dismissive in its approach with the trumpet providing vocal-like support. The album concludes with ‘Embrace’, which suggests a curiosity and willingness for connection.

It is an album that grabs your attention from start to finish and will encourage you to explore the trio’s back catalogue.
