Following hot-on-the-heels of an impressive run of international collaborations, including creative rendezvous with Vieux Farka Touré, Tiken Jah Fakoly, Sofi Tukker and Folamour, Bamako-born husband-and-wife superteam Amadou & Mariam make an exuberant statement of future intent with their latest single, ‘Magolu’.

Heralding the duo’s impending greatest-hits collection, La Vie Est Belle (released this autumn), ‘Magolu’ (meaning ‘people’ in Bambara) is a vivacious celebration of human encounters, travels and diversity, freighted via a heady flux of Afro-beat rhythms, insistent electronic pulses and invigorating ear-worm melodies, with Mariam’s gravelly sweet vocals buttressed by Amadou’s choppy-chop, fuzzed-up guitar heroics. Accompanying the track is its equally enchanting video (see below), shot in the bustling city of Dakar by director Ojoz, and featuring highly-talented dancer Akamz (a TikTok phenomenon, with more than 24 million followers).

Amadou & Mariam head out on tour in support of La Vie Est Belle this summer, with UK dates scheduled for Eden Festival, Dumfries & Galloway (June 15), Somerset House Summer Series, London (July 17) and WOMAD, Charlton Park (July 26).
